Warangal Congress Factionalism Flares Up as MLA Targets Minister Konda Surekha
Warangal West MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy accuses Forest Minister Konda Surekha of unilateral decisions, reigniting long-standing factionalism in Telangana Congress.
Warangal: Factional disputes in the Warangal Congress have resurfaced, with MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy raising objections against Forest Minister Konda Surekha. The legislator reportedly contacted TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud over the phone, protesting against the Minister’s decision to appoint two members to the Bhadrakali Temple Trust without consulting him.
“This kind of unilateral approach will damage the party,” Rajender Reddy is said to have told the state leadership.
The tensions are not new. For months, MLAs in the district have been at odds with the Konda family, alleging interference in constituency matters. In June, several legislators even approached AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, accusing the Kondas of attempting to dominate local politics.
The conflict escalated further when Konda Murali, during Rahul Gandhi’s birthday celebrations, reportedly branded Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari and Parakal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy as “traitors.” The remarks triggered demands for disciplinary action against the couple.
Political observers note that persistent factionalism could weaken Congress’s prospects in Warangal, a district crucial for the party’s grassroots strength.
Without timely intervention from the state leadership, internal rifts may spill into public campaigns ahead of upcoming elections.
