TPCC Chief Urges Rahul Gandhi to Include BC Quota Within Women’s Reservation
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud asks Rahul Gandhi to push for BC reservation within women’s quota; Congress leader responds positively.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has urged senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to advocate for reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) within the proposed women’s quota framework.
The request was made during a meeting in New Delhi, where Goud also asked Gandhi to convene a session of the AICC OBC Advisory Council to deliberate on the issue. According to party sources, Gandhi responded positively to the proposal.
During the interaction, Goud briefed Gandhi on developments in Telangana, including the recent caste survey conducted by the state government and ongoing welfare initiatives. He also updated the leadership on organisational matters such as appointments of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents.
The demand for sub-categorisation within women’s reservation reflects a broader push for equitable representation among different social groups. While the idea has political traction, its implementation could involve complex policy discussions at the national level.
For Telangana, the issue carries local relevance, especially in the context of caste-based data and welfare planning. If pursued further, it may influence how future reservation frameworks are shaped, both within the state and beyond.
