Thousands gathered in Hyderabad to bid farewell to AIMIM general secretary and former MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, reflecting his long political legacy and public connect.

Hyderabad: The funeral procession of senior All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri was held in Hyderabad on Wednesday, drawing thousands of mourners from across the city.

The Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at Masjid-e-Wazeer Ali in Chandulal Baradari after Zuhr prayers, with AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and several party leaders in attendance. Visuals from the site showed the mosque filled to capacity, with devotees lining nearby streets to pay their final respects. Quadri was later laid to rest at Masjid-e-Hazrat Syed Mohiuddin Pasha in Noorkhan Bazaar.

Quadri, who passed away on February 3 at the age of 72 after prolonged illness, had been undergoing treatment for renal complications and was admitted to Owaisi Hospital in Kanchanbagh late last year. His death marked the end of a political career spanning nearly four decades.

A seasoned mass leader, Quadri served as a GHMC corporator between 1986 and 1991 and was elected to the Telangana Assembly for four consecutive terms. He represented the Charminar constituency three times since 2004 and later won from Yakutpura in 2018.

Analysis: The scale of the funeral underscored Quadri’s deep grassroots connect, particularly in Hyderabad’s Old City. For AIMIM, his passing leaves a significant organisational and emotional void, especially ahead of key electoral battles.
