Telangana to Review Infrastructure at Erragadda Mental Health Hospital, Focus on Patient Facilities
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha orders inspection of old buildings at Erragadda’s Institute of Mental Health and directs officials to prioritize patient-friendly infrastructure upgrades.
Hyderabad: Telangana’s Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has directed officials to inspect aging structures at the Institute of Mental Health in Erragadda and present a detailed condition report within the next few days. The minister’s instructions came during a review meeting at the Indian Institute of Health office in SR Nagar, where he examined the overall status of hospitals under Osmania Medical College.
Officials from the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) were specifically asked to focus on modernizing the Erragadda facility. Plans include repairing existing equipment, installing an RO water system, improving sanitation and drainage, and upgrading internal roads and patient amenities. The minister stressed that the goal is to restore the hospital to its former stature while ensuring it meets present-day standards of care.
The meeting also touched on services at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and patient management in both outpatient and inpatient wards across affiliated hospitals.
Local Impact
For Hyderabad, this initiative could improve conditions in one of the state’s oldest mental health institutions, where infrastructure issues have long been a concern. Public health advocates suggest that upgrading facilities will not only benefit patients but also ease the burden on staff. Observers note that regular follow-up inspections will be crucial to ensure these commitments translate into lasting improvements.
