Telangana to Add 79 Dialysis Centres, Boost Free Kidney Care Services
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha announces 79 new dialysis centres in Telangana, aiming faster access and expanded free treatment under Aarogyasri.
Telangana is set to significantly expand its public healthcare infrastructure with the addition of 79 new dialysis centres, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha announced on April 18.
The proposed centres will collectively offer 416 beds, with the aim of ensuring that patients can access dialysis facilities within 20–25 minutes of travel. The move comes as part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen treatment for chronic illnesses.
According to the minister, dialysis services in government hospitals have already seen steady growth, with the total number of centres reaching 102 after new additions last year. Authorities are also installing 155 extra dialysis machines across multiple locations to reduce waiting times.
The government currently supports around 16,500 patients with free dialysis under the Aarogyasri scheme, covering both public and private hospitals. Officials said the annual expenditure on these services stands at approximately ₹220 crore.
Highlighting the rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, the minister stressed the need for early detection and preventive healthcare. He also pointed to ongoing efforts to promote organ donation and streamline transplant procedures under existing laws.
The expansion could ease pressure on urban hospitals and improve access in semi-urban and rural areas. However, beyond infrastructure, consistent staffing and awareness will be crucial to ensure these centres deliver timely and effective care to patients who depend on regular treatment.
