Revanth Reddy Unveils ₹1,000-Crore Overhaul for Osmania University; Student Anger Over Job Delays Flares Up

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday approved a landmark ₹1,000-crore investment to transform Osmania University, promising a balance of heritage conservation and modern infrastructure for the 106-year-old institution. Calling Osmania a “pillar of Telangana’s intellectual and political history,” he said the state aimed to elevate the campus to global standards.

As part of the upgrade push, the Chief Minister launched a QR-based feedback system, allowing students to directly submit suggestions on the university’s master plan. He also reflected on Osmania University’s central role in the Telangana statehood struggle, describing its campuses as “ground zero of youth-led change.”

However, the visit quickly turned charged when students protested the government’s pace in filling public-sector vacancies. Several chased the CM’s convoy, urging immediate action on long-pending job recruitments despite the administration’s recent assurance of creating 40,000 positions over the next 30 months. Police were deployed across the campus to prevent escalation.

The juxtaposition of a major financial boost with simmering student anger highlights the dual challenge facing the government—delivering long-term institutional upgrades while addressing urgent employment expectations. Osmania University's redevelopment may strengthen Telangana’s education ecosystem, but the effectiveness of the initiative will ultimately depend on whether young job seekers see tangible improvements in the near term. The protests serve as a reminder that infrastructure announcements alone cannot quell the anxieties of a generation waiting for opportunities.
