Telangana Pushes Blue–Green Vision as Govt Prioritises Musi River Revival
At the Telangana Rising Summit, ministers reaffirm the state’s commitment to restoring the Musi River and rejuvenating urban water systems as part of a larger blue–green development strategy.
Telangana Reaffirms Blue–Green Agenda, Calls Musi River Revival Central to Hyderabad’s Future
Telangana’s leadership has doubled down on its commitment to reshape the state through a blue–green infrastructure model, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy positioning the Musi River revival as a defining component of Hyderabad’s next phase of urban growth.
Urban Administration and Development Minister D. Sridhar Babu described the Musi not merely as a river but as Hyderabad’s “lifeline,” arguing that its restoration will serve a purpose far beyond ecological repair. “Rejuvenating lakes, drains and water corridors is not just an environmental obligation—it strengthens mobility, enhances public safety, expands recreational spaces, and boosts investor confidence,” he said.
The administration’s approach blends environmental restoration with long-term economic strategy, framing water systems as catalysts for cleaner transport networks, tourism potential, and enhanced liveability.
With Hyderabad expanding rapidly, the government’s blue–green push signals a shift from patchwork infrastructure fixes to systemic urban redesign. If executed effectively, restoring Musi and its network of lakes could reduce flooding, improve air quality, and draw investment into riverfront and mobility corridors. The challenge will lie in consistent implementation and community participation, both essential for sustaining ecological gains in fast-growing cities.
