Telangana Police launches dedicated IPS core team to develop AI-powered policing systems, improve crime tracking and modernise law enforcement operations.

The Telangana Police has launched a major push towards technology-driven law enforcement by forming a dedicated five-member IPS officers’ core team to oversee Artificial Intelligence-based policing initiatives.

During a high-level review meeting, DGP C.V. Anand directed officials to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies to improve crime investigation, law and order management, and administrative efficiency. The newly formed team has been tasked with completing key AI-focused projects within the next six months.

Among the initiatives under development are upgraded crime tracking systems, AI-assisted surveillance tools, drone monitoring, video analytics, and integrated data intelligence platforms. Officials were also instructed to create unified dashboards and strengthen digital monitoring systems across departments.

A major focus is the proposed TS-COPS platform, envisioned as a single mobile-based framework integrating multiple police services and operational systems, including crime tracking, human resource management, and citizen-facing applications.

Senior IPS officers have been assigned specific responsibilities covering areas such as AI integration, social media monitoring, traffic management, training, and system design.

The move reflects a broader shift towards data-driven policing, where technology is increasingly being used to improve response times and streamline investigations. If implemented effectively, such systems could help Telangana Police enhance coordination and reduce delays in field-level operations.

However, experts often point out that alongside technology adoption, regular training and accountability mechanisms will be equally important to ensure AI tools are used responsibly and efficiently in policing.
