Telangana Police Crack Inter-State Fake Currency Racket Eight Arrested in Major Operation
Kamareddy police in Telangana busted an inter-state fake currency racket, arresting eight members and seizing counterfeit notes worth over ₹3 lakh.
In a coordinated operation across multiple states, Telangana’s Kamareddy police have dismantled a fake currency network and arrested eight members of a 12-member inter-state gang, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The case came to light after a liquor shop cashier in Kamareddy reported suspicious ₹500 notes on September 24. Investigators soon traced the trail back to a man from West Bengal, who allegedly supplied counterfeit notes to local contacts in Telangana.
Acting on the lead, Superintendent of Police M. Rajesh Chandra deployed special teams to Bihar and West Bengal, where the accused were picked up. Four suspects were sent to jail on October 3, while another four were remanded on Saturday. The search continues for the remaining gang members.
Police recovered fake notes worth ₹3 lakh, along with ₹15,300 in genuine currency and partially printed notes valued around ₹8,000.
Analysis:
This crackdown highlights how smaller towns are increasingly becoming soft targets for inter-state counterfeit rackets. Police advise traders and shopkeepers to verify high-value notes, especially in cash-heavy businesses such as liquor and retail outlets. Experts note that rising digital payment adoption could help reduce such crimes in rural markets.
