Telangana Poised to Become India’s ‘Aero-Engine Hub’ by 2030, Says IT Minister Sridhar Babu
Telangana IT minister D. Sridhar Babu says Hyderabad is on track to emerge as India’s aero-engine hub by 2030, citing rapid growth in aerospace exports and major defence manufacturing investments.
Telangana IT minister D. Sridhar Babu has said Hyderabad is firmly on course to become India’s premier “Aero-Engine hub” by 2030, buoyed by a wave of high-value defence and aerospace investments. Speaking during his visit to the newly operational Tata–Safran aero-engine parts facility in Adibatla — a ₹425-crore project — the minister said the state is witnessing unprecedented momentum in the sector.
He noted that Telangana will soon add two major defence units: the ₹800-crore JSW Defence UAV facility and a ₹500-crore Premier Explosives manufacturing complex. The minister highlighted the surge in aerospace exports, which stood at ₹15,900 crore in 2023–24 and have already jumped to ₹30,742 crore in the first nine months of 2024–25.
Addressing the ‘Empowering Atmanirbhar Bharat: India’s Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Summit’ in Hyderabad, Sridhar Babu said the government is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to build a globally competitive aerospace and defence ecosystem through collaboration with top industries and academic institutions.
Analysis: Hyderabad’s emerging dominance in aero-engine manufacturing reflects a broader shift in India’s defence industrial strategy — one that favours decentralised, high-tech clusters outside traditional hubs. For Telangana, sustaining this growth will depend on continued policy stability, deep skilling programmes, and robust infrastructure to support next-generation manufacturing.
