Telangana Mosque Vandalised in Yadadiri Bhuvanagiri; Quran Copies Desecrated, FIR Filed
A mosque in Jalalpur village of Telangana’s Yadadiri Bhuvanagiri district was allegedly vandalised, with copies of the Quran found desecrated. Police have registered a case and formed teams to investigate.
Tension gripped Jalalpur village in Bommalaramaram mandal after worshippers arriving at a local mosque on Monday morning discovered signs of vandalism and alleged desecration of religious texts.
The incident occurred at the Jama Masjid in Telangana’s Yadadiri Bhuvanagiri district. According to initial accounts, unidentified persons reportedly entered the premises around midnight and caused damage to parts of the structure, including window panes, walls, washroom doors and the sound system. Copies of the Quran were found scattered inside the mosque compound, while empty beer and whisky bottles were also recovered from the site.
Condemning the episode, Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan called for immediate police action and a thorough probe. He alleged that resistance to the mosque had existed since its construction in 2018 and claimed there had been recurring tensions in nearby villages such as Bandakadipally and Thumukunta over prayer arrangements and use of loudspeakers.
Local police, however, sought to play down suggestions of a communal motive. Officials from Bommalaramaram police station stated that bottles were thrown into the premises and that the mosque had since been cleaned. They confirmed that a First Information Report had been registered against unknown individuals under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to trespass, mischief, defiling a place of worship and promoting enmity.
Police said three teams have been constituted to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Incidents targeting places of worship, even when swiftly addressed, can deepen mistrust in sensitive rural belts. Community leaders say transparent investigation and communication will be key to preventing rumours from escalating tensions. At the same time, authorities may need to strengthen night patrolling and surveillance around vulnerable sites to reassure residents and deter future acts.
