A 31-year-old man from Sangareddy took his own life after losing money in cricket betting. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

In a tragic incident linked to online cricket betting, a 31-year-old man from Sai Nagar, RC Puram mandal, reportedly died by suicide in Sangareddy district. The victim, identified as Akhil, had checked into an Oyo room near Beeramguda Kaman on Monday evening. Shortly before taking the extreme step, he called his father to say he was unable to cope with heavy betting losses.

Despite his father’s attempt to console him, Akhil was later found hanging in his room when the hotel staff broke open the door on Tuesday morning. Police have registered a case and sent the body for postmortem examination.

Analysis: The case underscores the growing menace of online betting in Telangana, where easy mobile access and unregulated platforms are leading many young people into financial distress. Authorities and families alike face the urgent task of raising awareness about the risks of gambling addiction — a silent crisis that often goes unnoticed until tragedy strikes.
