Telangana Govt to Use Only Electric Vehicles for Departments, Says CM Revanth Reddy
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy directs government departments to purchase only electric vehicles and proposes a modern bus terminal at Shamshabad.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed government departments to switch entirely to electric vehicles for official use as part of efforts to curb pollution and promote cleaner mobility.
During a review meeting with officials from the Transport and Roads & Buildings departments, the Chief Minister directed that only electric vehicles should be purchased for government use going forward. He also asked officials to ensure that hired vehicles operating within the Core Urban Region (CURE), largely covering Hyderabad city limits, are electric.
The meeting also focused on improving road safety awareness. Revanth Reddy suggested producing short films highlighting traffic rules and safe driving practices and screening them widely to reach the public.
In addition, the Chief Minister asked officials to prepare proposals for building a modern bus terminal at Shamshabad. The location is expected to gain importance as plans for proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai take shape.
The push toward electric mobility signals the government’s attempt to align urban transport with environmental goals. Experts say large-scale adoption of EVs in official fleets can reduce emissions and also encourage wider public acceptance of cleaner transport alternatives.
