Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla suggests anti-drug pledge for students during admissions; CM Revanth Reddy plans awareness drive in Hyderabad.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has proposed introducing an anti-drug pledge for students at the time of admission to schools and colleges, as part of efforts to curb substance abuse among youth.

The suggestion came during a meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at Lok Bhavan, where education-related concerns were discussed. The Governor emphasised the need for preventive measures at an early stage, recommending that students formally commit to staying away from drugs.

Responding to the proposal, the Chief Minister assured that the idea would be examined and said the government is planning a large-scale awareness programme. An anti-drug campaign event is scheduled to be held at LB Stadium on June 12.

The move signals a shift towards preventive and awareness-based strategies rather than relying solely on enforcement. If implemented effectively, such pledges—combined with counselling and education—could help institutions address substance abuse more proactively at the grassroots level.
