Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy accepts the resignation of suspended BRS MLC K Kavitha, bringing an end to her council tenure.

The Telangana Legislative Council has formally accepted the resignation of K Kavitha, with Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy approving her exit from the House with effect from January 6, according to an official notification issued by the Council Secretariat.

Kavitha, who was elected to the Council in 2021 from the Nizamabad Local Authorities’ constituency, had submitted her resignation on September 3 last year, though it remained pending until now. She renewed her appeal for acceptance while addressing the House on January 5.

During her address, Kavitha launched a sharp critique of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, led by her father K Chandrasekhar Rao, alleging corruption during the party’s tenure and dismissing its constitution as ineffective. She also distanced herself from what she described as “unpopular decisions” taken during the previous regime.

Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September 2025 after accusing senior party leaders, including T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, of damaging KCR’s image over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project. Since then, she has been active under the banner of Telangana Jagruti, and has announced plans for her platform to contest the next Assembly elections.

The acceptance of Kavitha’s resignation formally closes a turbulent chapter in the Council and signals a deeper political realignment ahead of state elections. Her shift toward an independent platform could reshape political equations, particularly in north Telangana. For observers, the episode highlights how internal party disputes are increasingly spilling into public political discourse.
