Telangana Braces for Torrential Rain on Oct 28–29; Flash Flood Alerts Issued in Several Districts
Telangana is expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall on October 28 and 29 due to Cyclone Montha’s influence. Authorities warn of flash floods in eastern districts as Hyderabad prepares for up to 115 mm rain.
Heavy Rains Forecast for Telangana as Cyclone Montha Nears
Telangana is preparing for a spell of intense rainfall over the next two days, with the impact expected to peak between October 28 and 29. The state’s eastern districts are on alert after weather experts predicted downpours severe enough to trigger flash floods.
According to local forecaster T. Balaji, the approaching Cyclone Montha, likely to make landfall along the central Andhra Pradesh coast, will bring widespread rain across Telangana. Eastern districts may see rainfall ranging from 150 to 220 mm, while Hyderabad could record up to 115 mm of rain, primarily on October 28.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, echoed the warning, forecasting over 200 mm of rain in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad. Other districts, including Mancherial, Warangal, Khammam, and Hanumakonda, could also see heavy to very heavy showers.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is expected across Adilabad, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri till October 30.
With flash floods a real possibility, residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours. Urban centres like Hyderabad, already prone to waterlogging, may face traffic disruptions and power outages.
Meteorologists say such intense weather patterns reflect a rising trend of extreme rainfall events in South India, highlighting the urgent need for better stormwater management in urban areas.
