Telangana BJP chief Ramchander Rao accuses CM Revanth Reddy of creating regional divide over delimitation, says no injustice will be done to southern states.

The political debate over delimitation intensified in Telangana as BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of fuelling regional divisions.

Responding to Revanth Reddy’s concerns that southern states could lose political representation under a population-based delimitation exercise, Rao dismissed the claim and asserted that no region would face injustice. He argued that raising such fears was misleading and aimed at creating unnecessary divisions.

The BJP leader also took aim at the Congress, alleging that it has historically relied on identity-based politics and is now extending that approach to regional narratives. He reiterated that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has assured equitable treatment for all states.

Meanwhile, BJP MP K. Laxman criticised the “hybrid model” suggested by Revanth Reddy for seat allocation, questioning its constitutional validity and seeking clarity from the Congress leadership on whether it reflects the party’s official position.

The exchange comes after the Chief Minister reached out to several southern counterparts, urging a collective response to the proposed changes and warning of a possible reduction in the region’s voice in Parliament.

The row underscores how delimitation has become a politically sensitive issue, particularly in southern states with lower population growth rates. While the debate centres on representation, it also reflects deeper concerns about balancing demographic realities with federal equity in India’s evolving political landscape.
