Telangana BJP claims its chief Ramchander Rao was placed under house arrest before a protest against Congress over the women’s reservation bill defeat.

The Telangana BJP has alleged that its state president N. Ramchander Rao was placed under house arrest by police ahead of a planned protest targeting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

According to the party, Rao had called for a demonstration outside the Chief Minister’s residence to protest against the Congress over the defeat of the women’s reservation-related constitutional amendment in Parliament. BJP leaders claimed the restrictions were imposed to prevent the protest from taking place.

In a statement shared on social media, the party said police action was aimed at curbing its campaign against the Congress. Despite the restrictions, Rao asserted that the BJP would continue its agitation on the issue.

The BJP has accused the Congress of blocking legislation that sought to expand representation and introduce reservation for women, calling the development a setback for women’s political empowerment. Rao also urged women to raise their voice against what he described as injustice.

The incident reflects the growing political friction in Telangana following the Bill’s defeat, with parties attempting to mobilise public opinion. Such confrontations often shift debates from Parliament to the streets, signalling how national legislative issues can quickly influence state-level political narratives.
