Tata–Safran Unveil ₹425-Crore Aero Engine Unit in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a major boost to India’s aviation manufacturing ecosystem, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Safran Aircraft Engines inaugurated a ₹425-crore rotating parts manufacturing plant for LEAP engines at Adibatla on Tuesday.

The high-precision facility, located at the Tata Centre of Excellence for Aero Engines, will produce complex rotating parts for CFM International’s LEAP engines—which power most next-generation narrow-body aircraft. The inauguration was attended by Telangana Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, along with senior officials from both companies.

This plant stems from a strategic collaboration announced in January 2024, under a long-term agreement to expand production capabilities in India. The LEAP engine, jointly developed by GE Aerospace and Safran, offers 15% higher fuel efficiency and significantly lower noise levels compared to earlier models.

Analysis

The partnership represents a milestone for Telangana’s growing status as an aerospace manufacturing hub, complementing India’s “Make in India” goals. Experts say the move will attract high-skill employment and reinforce India’s role in global aircraft supply chains.

For Hyderabad, which already houses major defence and aviation facilities, the Tata–Safran venture is expected to drive industrial diversification and export growth. It also signals growing confidence among international manufacturers in India’s precision engineering capabilities.
