Telangana DGP C.V. Anand warns of strict action against illegal cattle transport and communal disturbances during Bakrid celebrations across the state.

Ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations, Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand has directed officers across the state to take firm measures to maintain law and order and preserve communal harmony.

During a statewide video conference with Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, the DGP instructed officials to strictly curb illegal transportation and trafficking of cattle. He said that any violation of laws governing cattle transport and animal welfare would invite stringent legal action.

To strengthen enforcement, the police have established 52 inter-state checkpoints along Telangana’s borders with neighbouring states, in addition to 203 checkpoints within the state. Officers have also been asked to intensify surveillance at cattle fairs and sensitive locations in the days leading up to the festival.

The DGP made it clear that no individual or group would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Representatives of community organisations, including Qureshi associations and cow protection groups, were urged to avoid confrontations and report concerns directly to authorities.

Police were further instructed to monitor social media for provocative or misleading posts, with action promised against those attempting to spread tension. District officials will hold coordination meetings with community leaders to prevent misunderstandings and ensure peaceful celebrations.

The directive highlights the administration’s focus on preventive policing rather than reactive measures. For residents, the message is straightforward: celebrate responsibly, avoid rumours, and cooperate with authorities to ensure the festival passes peacefully across Telangana.
