Sridhar Babu Rejects KTR’s ₹5 Lakh Crore Land Scam Claim, Calls Allegations “Distorted”
Telangana minister D Sridhar Babu dismisses KTR’s land scam allegations, stating the Congress is regularising industrial land as per policy. Says figures misrepresented and no wrongdoing involved.
Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Friday dismissed allegations made by BRS leader KT Rama Rao, who earlier claimed that the Congress government was involved in a ₹5 lakh crore land scam. KTR had accused the ruling party of undervaluing over 9,000 acres of prime industrial land for conversion.
Countering the charge, Sridhar Babu clarified that the process was part of the Hyderabad Industrial Lands Transformation Policy (HILTP), which allows industrialists to regularise land for commercial use. He said the 30% figure cited by KTR refers to the conversion fee—not land valuation—and added that much of the land in question includes roads and infrastructure, not saleable plots.
Taking a dig at KTR, he alleged that the opposition leader was selectively presenting information and still “recovering from the Jubilee Hills defeat.”
Analysis: With real estate and industrial land holding high economic value in Hyderabad’s growth corridors, the issue has significant political weight. Experts note that transparent implementation of land policies is crucial to avoid investor uncertainty and prevent allegations from snowballing into larger controversies.
Sridhar Babu also stated that the government could earn ₹4,000–₹5,000 crore if eligible landowners opt for regularisation and challenged KTR to produce evidence of any pre-arranged deals.
The exchange signals a heated political showdown as both parties attempt to control the narrative on land and industrial development. Let me know if you'd like a sidebar comparison of claims vs response.
