BRS leader KTR demands equal opportunity for the Opposition to present facts on irrigation and river water issues if the Telangana government makes a presentation in the Assembly.

The working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, K. T. Rama Rao, on Thursday urged the Telangana government to extend equal opportunity to the Opposition if it proceeds with a PowerPoint presentation on irrigation and river water-sharing issues in the Legislative Assembly. He said parliamentary fairness demands that both sides be allowed to place facts before the House.

Speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan, KTR argued that all MLAs enjoy equal rights once proceedings begin, regardless of position. If the government presents its version, he said, the principal Opposition must also be permitted to explain its record, particularly on agriculture and irrigation during the BRS tenure. He added that the party is fully prepared with data and documentation to defend its governance.

Referring to past precedent, KTR recalled that a similar presentation by former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2016 had drawn objections from the Congress, which then termed it against legislative convention. He questioned how the same practice is now being justified and said the BRS has formally written to the Speaker seeking equal space for the Opposition.

KTR also launched a sharp critique of the Congress government, questioning the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s grasp of irrigation and river basin issues. He accused the government of neglecting key irrigation projects and alleged that no meaningful expansion of irrigated area has taken place under the present administration.

Analysis: With irrigation debates closely tied to farmer sentiment, denying the Opposition a platform could deepen political confrontation inside the House. Transparent discussion backed by data from both sides may help shift the debate from rhetoric to accountability
