Seethakka Assures Continued State Support for Telangana Journalists
Telangana Minister Seethakka assures continued support for journalists, announces aid and training initiatives. Families of deceased reporters receive financial relief.
Hyderabad Telangana’s Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, has reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of journalists and their families. Speaking at a cheque distribution event organized by the Telangana Media Academy in Nampally, she emphasized that journalists remain the critical link between citizens and the administration.
Paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty, Seethakka highlighted the invaluable role of reporters, particularly during the Telangana movement. She urged that journalists be given housing under state schemes and pushed for health benefits to the families of deceased reporters. Financial aid extended through the academy, she noted, offers essential relief to families struggling after losing a breadwinner.
Officials present also outlined new initiatives, including training workshops on AI, social media, and regional reporting, alongside plans for a dedicated library and computer lab. Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy confirmed that financial assistance totaling ₹24.5 lakh was distributed to affected families.
Analysis: While the government’s gestures are welcome, media professionals continue to face economic insecurity, unsafe working conditions, and mounting digital challenges. Ensuring housing, healthcare, and sustained training could provide long-term stability, but critics argue that these promises must move beyond announcements and translate into consistent delivery.
