Revanth Reddy Seeks Centre’s Backing for Telangana’s Integrated Residential School Plan
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy meets Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, seeks support for Young India Integrated Residential Schools.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and sought the Centre’s support for the state’s ambitious education push aimed at socially and economically marginalised communities.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined the Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) initiative, under which 105 campuses are planned across Telangana to provide quality education for students from BC, SC, ST and minority backgrounds. The programme is designed to directly benefit around 2.7 lakh students, with wider social impact expected across several lakh families.
Each YIIRS campus, catering to Classes 5 to 12, is planned as a fully residential institution with modern classrooms, laboratories, sports infrastructure and stadiums, accommodating up to 2,560 students. The overall investment for YIIRS and allied educational institutions is estimated at ₹30,000 crore.
Revanth Reddy proposed setting up a Special Purpose Company (SPC) to manage the funding and sought relaxation from FRBM norms for loans raised for the project. Sitharaman, according to officials, appreciated the state’s vision and the integrated school model, and asked for detailed inputs on the proposed SPC for further consideration.
If implemented as envisioned, the YIIRS model could significantly reshape access to residential schooling for underprivileged students in Telangana. The Centre’s response on funding flexibility will be crucial, as large-scale education reforms increasingly depend on innovative financing and federal cooperation.
