Revanth Reddy Meets Governor, Pushes for Azharuddin’s MLC Nomination
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy urges Governor to clear MLC nominations of Mohammed Azharuddin and Kodandaram ahead of constitutional deadline.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, urging him to clear the pending nominations of Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and M. Kodandaram to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.
The meeting assumes urgency as Azharuddin, who joined the Cabinet in October 2025, must secure membership in either House of the legislature by April 30 to continue as minister, in line with constitutional requirements.
Senior officials, including Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, were also present during the interaction at Lok Bhavan. The development follows earlier discussions between top state officials and the Governor regarding legal and administrative aspects of the nominations.
The Cabinet had recommended the names of Azharuddin and Kodandaram several months ago, but the file is yet to receive gubernatorial approval. The issue is further complicated by ongoing legal disputes related to earlier nominations under the same quota.
The situation highlights the procedural complexities surrounding gubernatorial nominations and judicial scrutiny. With a strict constitutional deadline approaching, the decision will not only impact individual political careers but also reflect on the coordination between the executive and constitutional offices in the state.
