Revanth Reddy Claims Congress Set for 87-Seat Comeback, Challenges KCR to Open Debate
CM Revanth Reddy claims Congress can win 87 Assembly seats, challenges KCR to an open debate on river water issues after strong local poll performance.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday asserted that the Congress is firmly on track for a sweeping return to power, projecting victories in 87 Assembly constituencies if recent local body election results are mirrored in state polls. Taking a direct swipe at BRS leader K. Chandrashekar Rao, Revanth said the mandate from villages reflects a decisive shift in public mood.
According to the Chief Minister, Congress-backed candidates secured wins in a clear majority of Gram Panchayats, with the party and its rebel candidates together dominating over two-thirds of villages across Telangana. In contrast, he said, the combined tally of the BRS and BJP was limited to about one-third, underscoring what he described as a rejection of the Opposition’s politics.
Revanth Reddy accused some Opposition leaders of continuing to display “arrogance and misinformation” despite electoral setbacks. He predicted that the same political trend would repeat in the 2029 Assembly elections, paving the way for Congress to return with a two-thirds majority.
Inviting a direct confrontation on policy, the Chief Minister called on KCR, in his role as Leader of the Opposition, to initiate an open discussion on Krishna river water sharing. He said the government was ready to convene special Assembly sessions and debates on both Krishna and Godavari river issues, alleging that the previous BRS regime had compromised Telangana’s interests for a decade.
By linking local body results to Assembly arithmetic, Revanth Reddy is attempting to frame village-level victories as a broader endorsement of his government. Whether this narrative holds through to the next general election will depend on how effectively the Congress converts rural momentum into sustained urban and regional support.
