Revanth Reddy, Azharuddin Named Star Campaigners as Congress Gears Up for Maharashtra Civic Elections
Congress names Revanth Reddy, Azharuddin and other national leaders as star campaigners for Maharashtra civic polls, aiming to sharpen its fight against the ruling alliance.
The Congress has unveiled a high-profile campaign lineup for the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra, naming Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and former cricketer-turned-politician Mohammad Azharuddin among its 40 designated star campaigners. The party is banking on nationally recognised faces to energise cadres and voters ahead of the crucial local body contests.
According to the Maharashtra Congress, the campaign will also feature senior AICC leader Sachin Pilot, along with youth leaders Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mevani. Several state-level leaders are expected to canvass across different regions to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
Polling is scheduled for January 15 across Mumbai and 28 other urban centres, with results to be announced the following day. The elections will cover 2,869 seats and an electorate of over 3.48 crore voters, setting up a closely watched contest between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the Opposition MVA bloc.
By deploying leaders from outside Maharashtra alongside local faces, Congress appears to be signalling a coordinated national push at the civic level. While star power can boost visibility, the party’s real test will be converting this momentum into booth-level organisation against well-entrenched rivals.
