Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has alleged that the BRS and BJP are deliberately obstructing key development initiatives, including the Musi river redevelopment, ahead of municipal elections.

Hyderabad: With municipal elections days away, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday stepped up his attack on the opposition, accusing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Bharatiya Janata Party of deliberately stalling key development initiatives in the state.

Speaking at a public meeting in Parigi after inaugurating local works, the chief minister alleged that opposition parties were creating hurdles for the Musi river redevelopment project, which aims to rejuvenate the 55-kilometre stretch through Hyderabad and improve living conditions for families residing along its banks. He said proposals to clean the river and build housing and schools for the poor were being opposed for political reasons.

Revanth Reddy further claimed there was a tacit understanding between the BRS and BJP to weaken the Congress electorally. He alleged that opposition leaders who failed to address public issues during their tenure were now seeking votes by invoking national leaders instead of focusing on local governance.

Responding to the charges, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy rejected the allegations, accusing the Congress government of evading accountability on its own promises and indulging in vote-bank politics. He said the BJP would act against corruption across party lines if voted to power.

Analysis: The sharp exchange reflects how development narratives have become central to Telangana’s civic poll campaign. As projects like the Musi redevelopment are projected as symbols of governance credibility, voter perception of who enables or blocks local progress could play a decisive role on polling day.
