Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh was taken into preventive custody in Medak while heading to Banswada following a recent communal clash in Kamareddy district.
Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh was taken into preventive custody on Sunday, February 22, while travelling towards Banswada in Kamareddy district, days after a communal flare-up in the area.
Police intercepted the legislator at Shankarampet in Medak district after receiving information about his proposed visit. He was later shifted to a local police station. Officers reportedly acted on instructions from senior officials, citing concerns over maintaining law and order.
According to sources, Singh intended to visit Banswada following Friday night’s violence. Though he told police he was heading to Nirmal for a meeting, authorities did not permit him to continue.
The unrest in Banswada reportedly began with a dispute over music being played at a shopping mall, which escalated into tension between two communities. Stone-pelting was reported from both sides, leaving several people injured. Police have registered two cases in connection with the incident and identified around 50 individuals so far.
With security tightened in the district, officials appear keen to prevent any political visits that could further inflame the situation. Residents, meanwhile, remain on edge as authorities monitor developments closely.
