Rahul Gandhi as PM ‘Need of the Hour’, Says Revanth Reddy at Vikarabad Meet
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy urges party cadre to work towards making Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister, as Congress reviews grassroots strategy at Vikarabad training camp.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday declared that elevating Rahul Gandhi to the post of Prime Minister is now a “necessity,” urging Congress workers to intensify their efforts at the grassroots level.
Speaking at the concluding session of the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ training programme for District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Vikarabad, Revanth Reddy framed his appeal not as a chief minister but as a party worker. He invoked the legacy of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, stating that leadership is about public service rather than prestige.
Rahul Gandhi, addressing the DCC presidents, focused on organisational strengthening. He emphasised accountability, people-centric planning and respect for women within party structures. Encouraging local leaders to build trust among voters, he assured them that consistent grassroots work would pave the way for growth within the party.
The discussions also touched upon political strategy. Gandhi cautioned leaders against what he described as divisive tactics by the BJP and asked them to respond thoughtfully. Party officials outlined plans for monthly village outreach, grievance redressal desks at DCC offices and formation of committees from booth to district level within two months.
Issues such as rural employment under MGNREGS, the recent India-US trade agreement and concerns of gig workers in Hyderabad were flagged for sustained engagement. The meeting signals Congress’s attempt to consolidate its organisational base ahead of future electoral battles, with leadership ambitions closely tied to grassroots mobilisation.
Whether this call translates into a broader national campaign remains to be seen, but the messaging from Vikarabad makes clear that Telangana Congress intends to align state-level consolidation with national aspirations.
