Hyderabad: In a crackdown on harassment, Rachakonda SHE teams detained 214 people within 15 days, of whom 120 were minors, for misbehaving with women at public places. Officials confirmed that cases—both petty and criminal—were registered, while several offenders were also counselled.

Between August 16 and 31, police received 228 complaints through direct reporting, WhatsApp, and social media. Offences were reported from metro trains, stations, colleges, bus stops, and workplaces across the commissionerate.

Earlier this month, a similar drive near the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh idol during Ganesh Chaturthi led to the arrest of around 900 individuals, 55 of them caught red-handed. The large festival gatherings remain a hotspot for such incidents every year.

Activists say the repeated arrests highlight the need for awareness campaigns in schools and colleges.

Advice: Police urge citizens, especially women commuters, to immediately report harassment using the SHE Teams’ WhatsApp helpline for quicker intervention.
