Hyderabad’s Old City gets relief as Passport Seva Kendra shifts from Ameerpet to MGBS Metro building, easing travel for residents.

Hyderabad: Residents of Hyderabad’s Old City will now find passport services closer to home with the relocation of a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) Metro building. The centre, inaugurated on September 16 in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, replaces the earlier PSK that was operating from Ameerpet.

The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that this is not an additional PSK but a relocation to ensure smoother operations. Alongside, the Tolichowki PSK is also being shifted to the Siri building at Raidurg, while the Begumpet office will continue functioning as usual. Currently, Hyderabad operates three PSKs, strategically placed to handle the city’s growing demand.

Analysis:
Though technically a shift rather than a new facility, the move is significant for residents of the Old City who previously had to travel long distances to access passport services. The change is expected to reduce wait times and cut travel expenses for applicants. For many families and professionals, this relocation could save valuable time, making routine documentation much easier.
