Hyderabad sees long queues at petrol pumps as panic buying spreads, even as officials and dealers assure adequate fuel and LPG supply.

Hyderabad witnessed heavy rush and long queues at petrol pumps on Wednesday as panic buying gripped the city, despite repeated assurances from authorities that there is no fuel shortage.

Several filling stations reported unusually high demand, with lines of cars, bikes and autorickshaws stretching onto roads. Some outlets temporarily displayed “No Stock” signs, largely due to sudden spikes in demand rather than actual supply disruption. Similar scenes were reported a day earlier as well.

CNG stations also saw congestion, with autorickshaws waiting in long queues, affecting traffic flow in several areas.

The Telangana Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Department clarified that fuel supply chains—from refineries to local depots—are functioning normally and that adequate stock is available across the state. Officials stressed that the apparent shortage at some outlets is a result of panic-driven demand, not supply failure.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar had earlier urged citizens to remain calm and avoid rushing to fuel stations, warning that such behaviour can create artificial scarcity and disrupt normal supply.

The Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association also dismissed rumours of shortage, stating that oil companies have sufficient reserves. It cautioned against storing fuel in cans, noting that such practices violate safety norms.

The situation highlights how misinformation can quickly escalate into real-world disruption. For residents, avoiding panic purchases and relying on verified updates can help stabilise supply and prevent unnecessary inconvenience across the city.
