AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi kick-started his municipal election campaign from Tandur, holding foot marches and signalling the party’s push across key Telangana towns.

Tandur: Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, began the party’s campaign for the upcoming municipal elections from Tandur on Saturday, marking the start of AIMIM’s ground-level mobilisation in Telangana.

Joined by Bahadurpura MLA Mohd Mubeen, GHMC corporators and local leaders, Owaisi undertook a foot march across several wards of Tandur municipality and nearby villages. Party leaders said the outreach was aimed at reconnecting with voters on civic issues and strengthening booth-level presence.

The AIMIM has fielded candidates in multiple wards of Tandur, a municipality where the party has previously tasted electoral success. Beyond Tandur, the party is contesting in major municipal corporations including Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda, besides municipalities such as Bhainsa, Vikarabad, Jagityal and Metpally.

The party retains a strong organisational base in Karimnagar and Nizamabad, where it has earlier secured mayor and deputy mayor positions, giving it confidence ahead of the current civic polls.

Analysis: By launching the campaign with a foot march rather than a large rally, AIMIM appears to be prioritising direct voter contact and local issues. How effectively this strategy translates into seats across new urban pockets will be a key test of the party’s expanding municipal ambitions.
