Union Minister G Kishan Reddy denies blocking Hyderabad Metro expansion, says no DPR has been sent to the Centre and clarifies stance on Musi project and Secunderabad station redevelopment.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday pushed back against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s allegation that he was stalling the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, terming the charge “baseless.”

Addressing reporters in Secunderabad, Kishan Reddy said the state government had not yet forwarded a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Metro expansion to the Centre. “Without a DPR, there is nothing for the Union government to examine or clear,” he remarked, questioning the basis of the chief minister’s claim.

He maintained that the Centre continues to support Telangana through projects worth thousands of crores and said a comprehensive list of such initiatives would be shared soon.

On the Musi river rejuvenation plan, the Union Minister clarified that the BJP supports cleaning the river but would oppose any demolition of long-settled homes belonging to economically weaker families along its banks.

Kishan Reddy also highlighted the ongoing redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, stating that the project, estimated at ₹750 crore, aims to upgrade the facility with modern amenities. Additionally, he alleged that the Congress was attempting to align with AIMIM over the Greater Hyderabad Mayor’s post, asserting that the BJP would resist such political moves.

The remarks come amid the Telangana government’s recent decision to take over Phase 1 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project from L&T, with the state planning to bear pending costs and seek Central funding for subsequent phases.

The exchange underscores growing friction between the state and Centre over infrastructure financing. With Metro expansion seen as critical to Hyderabad’s traffic management, clarity on funding and coordination will be key to avoiding further delays.
