BRS working president K T Rama Rao has called on voters to reject the Congress in Telangana’s municipal elections, accusing the ruling party of broken promises and anti-people policies.

Hyderabad: With Telangana heading into municipal elections, K T Rama Rao on Friday sharpened the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s campaign, urging voters to deliver what he described as a decisive rebuke to the ruling Indian National Congress.

Campaigning in Vemulawada and Sircilla, KTR alleged that the Congress government had failed to honour its key assurances, branding its much-publicised guarantees as unfulfilled. He told voters that supporting the Congress would amount to endorsing policies that, according to him, have harmed ordinary citizens, and appealed for support to the BRS car symbol on polling day, February 11.

The BRS leader also dismissed the Bharatiya Janata Party as irrelevant at the local level, accusing it of appearing only during elections and exploiting social divisions without delivering tangible benefits. He specifically targeted Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, alleging a lack of development gains for Karimnagar district and the state.

Turning his fire on the Congress-led administration under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR accused it of betraying multiple sections of society. He cited the cancellation of Bathukamma saree production in Sircilla as an example, claiming it had adversely impacted local weavers and their livelihoods.

The municipal elections, scheduled for February 11, will see 12,944 candidates contesting across Telangana. Official figures show a diverse field, with hundreds of postgraduate degree holders, thousands of graduates, and a wide mix of professions including housewives, businesspersons, private employees and retirees.

Analysis: KTR’s sharp rhetoric signals an attempt by the BRS to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment and position itself as the principal alternative at the grassroots. With a crowded candidate field and high stakes for all major parties, the municipal polls are shaping up as a crucial indicator of shifting urban political currents in Telangana.
