KTR Warns Against ‘Spectator Policing’ After Post-Poll Violence in Telangana
BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao cautions police over inaction amid post-election attacks on party workers, demands strict action and compensation for victims.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Tuesday issued a sharp warning to law enforcement authorities, saying continued police inaction in cases of post-election violence could worsen the situation in Telangana. His remarks followed an attack on BRS workers after the second phase of local body elections.
KTR visited injured party members Balaraju and his wife Ganji Bharati at a private hospital in Secunderabad, where several BRS supporters are undergoing treatment. After meeting the victims, the former minister alleged that assaults on BRS cadre have increased since the Congress assumed power in the state.
Referring to Monday’s incident, KTR said a relative of a Congress-backed sarpanch candidate allegedly drove a tractor into a gathering near Balaraju’s residence, leaving multiple people seriously injured. He accused the police of failing to act decisively and warned that “spectator policing” could provoke further unrest.
Post-election tensions often test the neutrality and responsiveness of the police administration. Political leaders across parties argue that swift and impartial action is essential to prevent retaliation cycles. KTR’s demand for attempt-to-murder charges and government compensation reflects growing pressure on the state to reassure citizens about law and order.
