KTR Urges Telangana Govt to Form Auto Drivers’ Welfare Board
BRS leader KTR urges Telangana government to form an Auto Drivers’ Welfare Board, slams Congress for ending insurance and delaying promised support.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has urged the Telangana government to establish a dedicated welfare board for auto drivers, accusing the Congress administration of neglecting its election promises to the community.
Speaking after visiting an auto driver from Rajanna-Sircilla district who reportedly attempted suicide due to financial strain, KTR criticized the government for failing to roll out its pledged support of ₹12,000 per year and accident insurance coverage for drivers. He said not a single driver had benefited so far, even after six months in power.
KTR also alleged that the Congress government discontinued the accident insurance scheme introduced during the BRS regime, leaving nearly eight lakh drivers without coverage. “Andhra Pradesh is offering such benefits, but Telangana’s drivers have been forgotten,” he remarked.
Context & Analysis:
The demand highlights a growing concern among low-income workers over delayed welfare delivery. For many auto drivers, a welfare board could serve as a lifeline—offering access to financial aid, health insurance, and emergency support. If acted upon, this move could not only stabilize livelihoods but also rebuild public trust in government welfare mechanisms.
