BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao alleges the Congress government is involved in a massive land conversion scam worth ₹5 lakh crore. Calls it India’s biggest land loot, warns land buyers.
KTR Alleges Massive Land Scam, Calls It ‘India’s Biggest Loot’
In a sharp attack on the Telangana government, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of overseeing what he described as the “largest land scam in India’s history”. Speaking at a press conference, he claimed that nearly 9,300 acres of industrial land across Hyderabad and surrounding areas were being illegally undervalued, converted and reallocated—allegedly to benefit the CM and his close associates.
KTR alleged the scam could be worth up to ₹5 lakh crore and said the move reverses decades of policy that prioritised industrial growth. He criticised the recently introduced Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy, saying it enables industrial land to be turned into high-value real estate within 45 days. He further alleged that buyers are being allowed to regularise land by paying just 30% of its market value.
The former minister warned that anyone purchasing such land could face consequences if the policy is challenged later. “We never allowed such conversions during our tenure,” he added, stressing that the BRS will continue to oppose the move.
Analysis: The allegations come amid heightened political tension in Telangana and could impact investor confidence if not addressed transparently. Experts say that land policy shifts must be backed by clear legal frameworks to avoid long-term disputes. For businesses and developers, clarity on government guidelines will be crucial before making high-stake investments.
Observers also note that while the accusations are politically charged, they reflect a larger debate around urban land use and governance accountability.
