Kavitha Detained During Singareni Bhavan Protest, Demands Restoration of Jobs
Telangana Jagruti president and former BRS leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha was detained by police on Wednesday during a protest outside Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. The demonstration — held in coordination with the Hindustan Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) — demanded the reinstatement of dependent employment opportunities within the Singareni organisation and immediate establishment of a medical board.
The absence of a medical board, protesters argue, has been delaying eligibility assessments for dependents of workers, affecting job allotment and welfare entitlements. Kavitha, 42, along with HMS General Secretary Riaz Ahmed and President Tippa Raju, accused authorities of ignoring longstanding concerns raised by the workforce.
The situation escalated when Kavitha refused to disperse despite police intervention, leading to her detention and transfer to the Nampally police station. Telangana Jagruti’s official channels alleged the arrests were made “illegally”.
Analysis Kavitha has recently intensified her public outreach under the ‘Jagruti Janam Patha’ campaign, with labour rights and Singareni worker grievances featuring prominently. Political observers note that the protest signals a sharpening focus on employee welfare in industrial sectors, potentially increasing pressure on the state government ahead of local body polls.
Workers expect the government to act swiftly, as delays in medical certifications directly impact dependent hiring—an issue that continues to fuel unrest within the mining community.
The protest may have ended in detention, but the concerns it raised are unlikely to be silenced soon.
