Hyderabad traffic police register 450 cases in a day over number plate violations, impose ₹80,000 fines and initiate action against repeat offenders.

In a focused enforcement drive, the Hyderabad Traffic Police registered 450 cases in a single day for violations related to vehicle number plates across the Trimulgherry and Malkajgiri divisions.

Officials said fines totalling ₹80,000 were imposed during the operation, while 66 repeat offenders were booked for court proceedings. The crackdown was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-I) K. Rahul Reddy.

Authorities reiterated that number plates must strictly follow prescribed standards, including approved format, legibility, correct font and proper placement. The use of decorative fonts, stickers, symbols or partial concealment of registration numbers has been flagged as a clear violation.

High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are mandatory where applicable, and even seemingly minor issues—such as mud-covered plates or decorative frames can invite penalties.

Such drives indicate a stricter push towards compliance and road discipline in the city. For motorists, ensuring standard number plates is not just about avoiding fines but also aids identification in emergencies and improves overall traffic enforcement.
