AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi flags pigeon menace, stray dogs, and traffic chaos in Hyderabad, urging urgent civic action during an Assembly debate.

Raising concerns over what he described as worsening civic neglect, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi urged the Telangana government to act decisively on a range of urban issues affecting Hyderabad. Speaking during a debate on the expansion of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits in the Assembly, he flagged unchecked pigeon feeding on roads, a surge in stray dog numbers, and mounting traffic disorder.

Owaisi warned that pigeon droppings accumulating in public spaces were contributing to respiratory ailments, including bronchitis, while citing official figures on dog bite incidents to underline the scale of the stray dog problem. He also criticised lax enforcement of traffic rules, pointing to poor licensing practices and indisciplined driving as factors worsening congestion and road safety.

Linking these challenges to broader urban stress, the AIMIM leader said unmanaged garbage, frequent flooding, and recurring power disruptions were stretching the city’s infrastructure amid rapid growth. He said his party plans to launch a public awareness drive against roadside pigeon feeding in the coming weeks.

Analysis: Owaisi’s intervention reflects growing public frustration over day-to-day civic issues rather than headline infrastructure projects. Addressing such “quality of life” concerns may prove crucial for city administrators seeking public trust as Hyderabad continues to expand.
