Telangana braces for severe heatwave from April 24–29 with temperatures up to 45°C. Here’s how to prevent heatstroke and stay safe.

Telangana is set to witness a severe heatwave between April 24 and 29, with temperatures expected to soar up to 45°C in several districts, raising serious health concerns.

Northern and eastern parts of the state are likely to bear the brunt of the heat, while Hyderabad may see temperatures ranging between 41°C and 43°C. Authorities have warned of a higher risk of heatstroke, particularly during peak afternoon hours.

Heatstroke can develop rapidly and may become life-threatening. Common warning signs include confusion, dizziness, high body temperature, dry skin, nausea, rapid heartbeat and breathing, and even loss of consciousness. In children, symptoms may also include irritability, reduced urine output and unusual fatigue.

If a person shows signs of heatstroke especially if they are unconscious, disoriented, or not sweating emergency services (108/102) should be contacted immediately. While waiting for help, shift the person to a cooler place, apply water to the body, and increase airflow to bring down body temperature.

Pets are equally vulnerable during extreme heat. Signs such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness or seizures require immediate attention. Moving animals to shaded areas and ensuring hydration can help prevent complications.

The coming days call for caution, especially for outdoor workers, children and the elderly. Staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure, and planning activities during cooler hours can significantly reduce risks. With temperatures climbing sharply, awareness and quick response could make a critical difference in preventing heat-related emergencies.
