Harish Rao Helps Bring Back 12 Telangana Migrants Stranded in Jordan

Hyderabad: After weeks of despair abroad, 12 Telangana migrant workers trapped in Jordan have finally made it home, thanks to the efforts of BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao. The group, who endured hunger and exploitation, were received by Rao in Hyderabad early Saturday, where they tearfully thanked him and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for securing their release.

The workers recounted harrowing experiences of being stranded without food, money, or official help. Despite reaching out to both State and Central government officials, as well as local representatives, they said their appeals were ignored. “We begged for help, but no one came forward until Harish Rao stepped in,” one worker said emotionally.

Harish Rao said the rescue was carried out under the guidance of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, adding that penalties had to be paid to ensure their safe return. He criticised the inaction of authorities and urged the government to take proactive steps to safeguard Telangana’s migrant workers, many of whom continue to face hardship in Gulf and Middle Eastern countries.

Analysis: The episode exposes a troubling reality thousands of Telangana’s rural youth migrate abroad for survival, often falling victim to exploitation and neglect. Harish Rao’s intervention may have brought temporary relief to these 12 individuals, but it also underscores the urgent need for policy-level protection, stricter regulation of recruitment agents, and stronger coordination between state and foreign missions to prevent such humanitarian crises in the future.
