GHMC Clears Flyovers, Health Centre and Sports Facilities in Major Infra Push
The GHMC standing committee has approved multiple infrastructure and civic projects in Hyderabad, including flyovers, a community health centre, sports facilities and digital governance initiatives.
Hyderabad: The standing committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on January 29 gave the green signal to a series of infrastructure and public utility projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving civic amenities across the city.
Among the key approvals is a 50-bed Community Health Centre at Yakutpura, along with the renovation of the Moula Ali road underbridge. The committee also cleared proposals for an indoor sports complex at Banda Bavi and a football ground at Valvar Nagar in Capra, expanding recreational infrastructure in residential areas.
Several major traffic interventions were also approved, including a six-lane flyover connecting Bairamalguda to Owaisi Junction, a one-way flyover at NFCL Junction, and an underpass or flyover at the busy TV9 Junction. Construction of circle offices at Hayat Nagar and LB Nagar was also sanctioned.
In a push towards digital governance, the committee approved the appointment of a private developer to design and maintain a GIS platform for GHMC. It also cleared the rollout of a face-recognition-based biometric attendance system for sanitation, entomology and veterinary staff in newly merged municipalities.
The panel further approved handing over the Model Market building at Tarnaka to the Lighthouse Foundation for skill training of unemployed youth. Proposals to rename Bathukamma Kunta Park after V Hanumantha Rao, to name a road near Bairamalguda Flyover after the late Vanga Madhusudhan Reddy, and to install an Atal Bihari Vajpayee statue at Barkatpura Junction were either approved or recommended for the Council’s final nod.
Analysis: The breadth of approvals indicates GHMC’s focus on combining traffic solutions with health, sports and digital initiatives. If implemented on schedule, these projects could significantly improve daily mobility and neighbourhood-level amenities, though timely execution will remain the key test.
