Former BJP MLA Aruri Ramesh Resigns, Set to Rejoin BRS in Telangana
Ex-MLA Aruri Ramesh quits BJP citing personal reasons, confirms return to BRS, signalling another political shift in Telangana.
In a fresh political development in Telangana, former legislator Aruri Ramesh has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, confirming his decision to return to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
In his resignation letter dated January 26, Ramesh said he was stepping away from the BJP due to “personal reasons and unavoidable circumstances” and requested immediate acceptance of his decision. He also thanked the party leadership, cadres, and supporters for their cooperation during his brief stint with the BJP.
Putting an end to speculation about his political future, Ramesh stated that he would be rejoining the BRS, the party with which he had earlier built his electoral career. Reports indicate that the formal re-entry is expected within the next two to three days, possibly in the presence of BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Ramesh began his political journey with the Praja Rajyam Party before moving to the BRS, from where he won the Wardhannapet Assembly seat in both 2014 and 2018. His political fortunes dipped in the 2023 Assembly elections, when he lost the same constituency while contesting on a BRS ticket.
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ramesh switched to the BJP and contested from Warangal, but failed to secure a win. Despite the setback, he remained active in the party and campaigned during recent local body polls.
Ramesh’s return to the BRS highlights the fluid nature of party loyalties in Telangana, particularly after recent electoral setbacks. As parties recalibrate strategies ahead of future polls, such switches underline the importance of regional equations and personal political survival over long-term party alignment.
