Former MP DK Suresh says DK Shivakumar remains loyal and patient as Congress high command weighs leadership calls, hinting patience may not last forever.

Amid ongoing speculation over leadership within the Karnataka Congress, former MP D. K. Suresh has said that his brother, senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar, continues to wait for the party high command’s decision but with a clear message that patience cannot stretch endlessly.

In a series of interviews, Suresh described Shivakumar as a “disciplined soldier” of the Congress who has remained loyal to the organisation despite prolonged uncertainty. He remarked that while restraint and patience are virtues in politics, leadership transitions rarely happen voluntarily, adding that “no one hands over power easily.”

Suresh said Shivakumar had been assured by Rahul Gandhi that the party would take the “right decision at the right time” after reviewing the political situation. He urged party supporters to remain calm and avoid public pressure, suggesting that the upcoming Karnataka Assembly session from January 22 to 31 could be a crucial phase.

The remarks come as internal discussions within the Congress continue over future leadership arrangements in the state, a subject that has periodically surfaced since the party returned to power.

Suresh’s comments reflect a careful balancing act reaffirming loyalty to the Congress while subtly signalling limits to prolonged indecision. In Karnataka’s faction-sensitive politics, timing and perception matter as much as formal announcements. For the party, managing expectations around Shivakumar’s role will be key to maintaining unity, especially with legislative business and governance priorities converging in the Assembly session ahead.
