Congress Slams Modi’s Silence After Trump Repeats Claim on Halting ‘Operation Sindoor’
Congress questions PM Modi’s silence after Donald Trump again claims credit for ending India’s Operation Sindoor. The row revives debate over India’s diplomatic stance and political messaging on global platforms.
The political heat intensified in New Delhi on Monday after the Congress accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining silence on yet another claim by US President Donald Trump that he personally forced India to halt Operation Sindoor through tariff pressure.
Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh shared a video clip of Trump on X, noting it was the 51st time he had repeated the claim. Ramesh alleged that the prime minister “remains silent” while simultaneously commending Trump for his peace initiatives in Gaza.
Trump’s statement—asserting he had “resolved eight wars,” including the India–Pakistan conflict—comes months after his earlier remarks that Washington’s intervention led to a ceasefire between the two neighbours in May. India, however, has maintained that the truce followed direct talks between the two nations’ military commanders, not foreign mediation.
The latest exchange followed Modi’s message welcoming the release of 20 hostages held by Hamas, where he lauded Trump’s “sincere efforts” toward peace. “We support every move that strengthens stability in the region,” the prime minister said.
Analysis: The controversy exposes the diplomatic tightrope India often walks — balancing domestic political optics with global partnerships. While Trump’s repeated claims raise questions about narrative control, Modi’s silence may reflect a deliberate attempt to avoid fueling an international controversy. For voters at home, however, the Opposition’s charge underscores a familiar theme: whether India’s voice is assertive enough on the world stage
