Congress wins a majority in Telangana Panchayat elections, securing 6,726 seats and strengthening its rural footprint across the state.

The Congress has registered a decisive victory in the Telangana Gram Panchayat elections, winning a majority of seats across the three polling phases held on December 11, 14, and 17. Out of 12,726 seats, Congress-backed candidates secured 6,726, giving the ruling party a comfortable edge at the grassroots level.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) finished in second place with 4,031 seats, maintaining a strong rural presence, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) improved its tally to 697 seats, marking a noticeable rise compared to earlier elections. Congress leaders attributed the results to welfare-focused governance, particularly schemes aimed at farmers and rural households, with districts like Nalgonda and Khammam delivering strong support.

The outcome signals growing consolidation for the Congress in rural Telangana, strengthening its position ahead of future local and Assembly-level contests. At the same time, the steady performance of the BRS suggests that electoral competition in villages remains closely fought, preventing a one-sided political landscape.
