BRS Walkout as Musi River Project Comes Up in Telangana Assembly
Telangana Assembly sees BRS walkout over alleged Speaker bias as Musi river beautification debate sparks a fresh clash with the Congress government.
The second day of the Winter Session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges after BRS legislators staged a walkout, alleging bias by the Speaker over limited time for the Opposition. The protest was led by T. Harish Rao, who said the Opposition was not being given adequate space to raise concerns on the House floor.
The disruption unfolded during a debate on the Musi River beautification project, a key initiative of the Congress government. Harish Rao cautioned that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi would strongly oppose any move that results in demolition of homes belonging to the poor in the name of riverfront development.
Responding to the criticism, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy defended the project, stressing that cleaning the heavily polluted Musi river is essential for Hyderabad’s long-term development and environmental revival.
Analysis: The Musi project has emerged as both an environmental and political flashpoint, blending urban renewal with social concerns. Balancing rehabilitation of affected families with ecological restoration will be crucial to avoid prolonged confrontation and public backlash
